Lighthouse Community Hub officially opened

Lighthouse Community Hub officially opened

The Lighthouse Community Hub was officially opened by His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Northumberland, Dr Caroline Pryer, on Thursday 4 September alongside the many people, businesses, organisations and groups that have made this vision of a community hub become reality.

The trustees and volunteers have worked hard to create a safe, welcoming space for everyone in the community and are committed to helping families thrive, irrespective of the circumstances they face.

The redevelopment of the former caretaker’s house at Newsham Primary School to create the hub was a project funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, with the North East Combined Authority as the Lead Authority. The funding was allocated to the hub by the Northumberland Inclusive Economy Community Partnership.

The Lighthouse Community Hub has already impacted on the lives of many people in the local community through family learning, leading to employment for several volunteers, alongside cookery classes, gardening sessions, and an eco-uniform scheme. Social connections made through the hub have increased confidence and friendships for many individuals, who are now part of a thriving, supportive community.

The opening marked the beginning of an exciting journey and the team is looking forward to the Lighthouse Community Hub continuing to grow and evolve, reaching even more families and offering even more opportunities for learning, support and community building.

New sessions are planned including yoga, first aid, sensory baby classes, ‘save a baby’s life’, seated yoga and ‘save a child’s life’.
