Building Confidence Through Language – A Ukrainian Resident Achieves English Qualification

It’s been a significant milestone for a young Ukrainian resident in Northumberland, who recently earned a Level 2 English qualification. This achievement marks an important step forward in their journey toward employment, training and greater independence in the UK.

When Maksym first arrived in the area, he faced the dual challenges of settling into a new country and overcoming the language barrier. With support from Iryna Zhomer, who provides employment support for Ukrainian residents, the customer was referred to Northern Learning Trust at Bedlington Learning Hive to begin his English language learning journey.

Through regular sessions at Bedlington Learning Hive, led by a very dedicated professional Monika Galic, Maksym not only built essential language skills but also gained the confidence needed to take on further training and actively engage in the local community.

“I am so happy to pass my Level 2 English. This wouldn’t have happened without the support I received from Iryna and Monika. Now I feel more confident to progress with my employment journey,” said the learner.

This achievement became possible through personalised guidance to help the learner set meaningful goals and overcome challenges, through consistent, tailored support that ensured steady progress throughout the course.

“I’m thrilled about Maksym’s result as he worked hard in preparation for the exam, and it’s wonderful to see that effort pay off” said Monika, “I truly believe this is just the beginning for him, with a bright future ahead.”

This success story proves the power of personalised, community-based learning and the importance of partnerships in helping people thrive—no matter their starting point.
