Job Seeking Workshop for Ukrainians in the North East

Job Seeking Workshop for Ukrainians in the North East

A new employment support workshop is now available for Ukrainians settling in the North East, designed to help individuals take confident steps toward finding sustainable work in the UK. The 2 hour session covers essential topics including how to complete job applications, write effective CVs and cover letters, and make the most of volunteering opportunities to gain local experience. It also focuses on recognising and presenting transferable skills, understanding job descriptions and person specifications, preparing for interviews, and validating overseas qualifications.

Commissioned by the North East Migration Partnership (NEMP) and facilitated by English Unlocked, this tailored workshop is co-delivered in Ukrainian, ensuring it meets the specific needs of the Ukrainian residents. Participants receive practical guidance and are signposted to further local support, training, and language resources.

Shelley Purchon, Founding Director of English Unlocked, shared her experience:
“When NEMP asked English Unlocked to create a workshop for Ukrainian job seekers, I was very fortunate to meet Iryna Zhomer, NCC Employment Partnership Co-ordinator. Without her insights I would have really struggled to understand the obstacles which Ukrainians face when seeking employment in the UK. As well as shaping the content of the course, Iryna co-delivered the training (in Ukrainian) and translated the course materials. Now we have a unique course which other regions are considering for their own Ukrainian communities, and we can be proud that it originated here in the North East.”
