Portal offers simple route into volunteering

Volunteering is one of the best ways to give back, meet new people and pick up skills along the way. Now, thanks to a Northumberland volunteer portal, finding the right role has never been easier.

Thriving Together Northumberland’s Volunteer Passport offers a one-stop place for people to create their own volunteer profile, keep track of hours and training, and even earn digital badges to celebrate achievements. For local organisations, it simplifies the process, helping with recruitment, onboarding and ongoing support.

Funding to help roll out the opportunity to voluntary and community sector organisations has been provided in 2025 by the Northumberland Inclusive Economy Community Partnership, itself funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund with the North East Combined Authority as the Lead Authority. Supporting the Volunteer Passport was a key aspect of one of the community partnership’s focuses to invest in capacity building and infrastructure to support local civil society and community groups.

There are volunteer roles available across the county, with a range of organisations, and new opportunities are added regularly. The Volunteer Passport is a way for volunteers to show off their skills and experience, try different kinds of roles, depending on their time and interests, and build confidence, connections and career pathways.
